Annual Legislation Days

March 14th and 15th, 2016

Leslie Richendifer and Danielle Naughton of ASCLS-Wyoming were able to attend Legislation Days this year in March.

The Legislative Symposium is a two day collaborative event that is held in Washington D.C. each year.  This is a time when the national leaders of ASCLS and representatives from each of the state societies come together to address current issues affecting healthcare and Laboratorians across the nation.  We then have the opportunity to personally address our concerns to our Congressmen and Senators, and ask for their help in advocating for the individuals that make up our profession and give voice to regulatory issues that affect our practice.

There were 4 issues that were discussed at this years symposium:

  1. Shortages of Clinical Laboratory Personnel
  2. Laboratory Community Supports Harmonization of Test Results
  3. Laboratory Developed Tests Should Be Carefully Regulated
  4. Access to Clinical Laboratory Services in Jeopardy Due to CMS Implementation of PAMA Provision

Leslie and Danielle had the opportunity to speak with both Representative Cynthia Lummis and Senator Mike Enzi.
